High speed rail thread.
« on: October 21, 2007, 05:10:43 PM »
I'm starting this thread to discuss high speed rail. In the US, high speed rail is a joke which cannot compete with air transportation.  The airlines have a strong lobby against high speed rail and plans such as the Texas triangle maglev have failed as a result of airlines such as Southwest. In the US we high Acela express service which is capable of briefly reaching 150mph in  New Jersey. By comparison, many foreign nations such as Japan, France and Germany have trains which can easily exceed 300 mph.
