Tekufat Tevet
« on: January 06, 2008, 06:46:28 PM »
Tonight is the start of Tekufat Tishrei (The Halachic solar start of Winter according to the Jewish calculations which happen to coincide with The Julian Calendar.). The Jewish solar year is divided into 4 equals parts for exactly a total of 365.25 days. I am celebrating by going to synagogue for services of today (29 Tevet) and I will eat a seasonal food in the morning. I will eat water ice because it is like the ice and snow of The Winter.

The exact start of the tekufa is January 7, 4:30 A.M., Jerusalem Time. The previous tekufa (Tekufat Tishrei - Fall), which began on October October 7, 9:00 P.M., Jerusalem Time, is rapidly coming to an end.

In 5768, I am celebrating all the tekufat by going to synagogue and eating a seasonal food. For the last tekufa, I ate an apple and honey.
