They can call themselves what they want.
After the break from 1054,
the western Catholic church separated itself from Christianity.

You mean the split of Christianity into Orthodox and Roman Catholicism? Is there an Eastern Catholic church? I am not familiar with the different orders and branches of Catholicism.
