in actual fact i havn't been able to get to sleep with all the issues looming of whether Labour is going to get into power or the Liberal government here...

Kevin Rudd who is a somewhat "mild leftist" has some economic disparities over interest rates which will be problematic if he gets into power for Labour... and recent pols shows thats where he is heading.. he recently also supported a muslim community believed to have been involved in terrorist activity and statements on Muslims in general...

John Howard on the other hand who leads the Liberal party and has been in office for 11 years has been quite critical of muslim behavior and has told them that they must adhere to Australian way of life and respect our culture...

John Howard = Good economic policies/foreign and domestic polices
Kevin Rudd = Moral " over tolerance" and problematic economic future schemes

unfortunately it may already be too late to save Australia from Labour getting in,... who knows we will see...

International congratulations for Rudd

Congratulations from around the world have flooded in for new Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has flagged the signing of the Kyoto protocol as an important talking point between the two countries, and New Zealand’s Prime Minister Helen Clark has indicated her willingness to work with Mr Rudd.

Even American President George W Bush, who is close friend and ally of out-going Prime Minister John Howard, has congratulated Mr Rudd on his victory.

Brown ready to talk climate change

Mr Brown telephoned Mr Rudd from the Ugandan capital of Kampala, where he is attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), shortly after outgoing prime minister John Howard conceded defeat on Saturday night.

"I have talked to Kevin Rudd ... and congratulated him on his election and talked to him about some of the issues, including climate change, that we are discussing here today," Mr Brown told reporters.

"Kevin Rudd has told me he will immediately sign the Kyoto agreement and he is proposing these binding agreements in the post-Kyoto talks that start in Bali in a few days' time."

Mr Brown, who heads Britain's Labour Party, also discussed a range of other global issues with Mr Rudd including Iraq, Afghanistan and global security.

He added that Mr Brown had enjoyed working with Mr Howard and he appreciated the close cooperation between the UK and Australia on a number of essential bilateral issues.

Close relationship: Clark

Meanwhile, Ms Clark says Australia and New Zealand have always worked closely together.

"I anticipate that our close and familiar relationship will continue to flourish under Mr Rudd and his new Labor government," Clark said.

"Our many areas of co-operation with Australia include developing a single economic market, climate change, strengthening institutions in the South Pacific, improving international trade rules, and making the world a safer place through peacekeeping and promoting inter-faith dialogue," she said.

She also paid tribute to outgoing prime minister John Howard.

"Mr Howard has been a good friend to New Zealand, and his legacy includes a substantial deepening in the trans-Tasman relationship," Clark said.

Bush offers support

Despite experts in US-Australian affairs predicting some chilliness between the White House and Mr Rudd, but just hours after the ALP won its landslide federal election victory Mr Bush and Mr Rudd hosed down any perceived hostilities.

Mr Bush rang Mr Rudd to congratulate him soon after the poll results were evident.

And for his part, Mr Rudd signalled the close relationship between Australian and the United States would continue under his leadership.

Well it is my opinion based on what I know of the Labor party. Rudd is a decent fellow and a good politician and is pro-Israel, I am scared mostly of his deputies and of the unions who are not friends of Israel unlike most of the Liberal's former front bench. Labor will pander to the muslims moreso than the Liberals ever have. Having said that, both major parties in Australia are pro-Israel, former Labor PM Bob Hawke was one of the best regarding his support of Israel, I am just scared of who Rudd has underneath him right now as it seems Labor besides Rudd at the top has moved to the left abit. Gillard is still an outright socialist extremist, and she's one position away from the PM. The unions have always been extremely leftwing and anti-Israel and they usually end up controlling Labor party policy. How the senate ends up might restrict what labor can do as it seems that there might be a split between the Christian Right Family First party and the utterly reprehensible greens. We are lucky here in Australia considering both major parties are pro-Israel unlike those overseas, specifically in the UK.

Another positive thing about Australia is that while the Jewish community are big supporters of the centre-left ALP, the overwhelming majority of Australian Jews ARE pro-Israel unlike US Jews.

There are a tiny minority of anti-Israel Jews like Anthony Lowenstein, but a look at the comments on his blog will show that 90+% of Aussie Jews hate his guts.
