Israeli Arab Man Claims Right to Beat his Wife


(IsraelNN.com) A 28-year-old Israeli Arab man from Tamra protested his arrest for domestic violence on Thursday, saying a violent attack on his wife was an internal family affair.  Police had no right to interfere, he claimed.

The man was arrested after two senior IDF commanders saw him beating his wife in broad daylight on Highway 40.  The husband, a social worker, did not deny the allegations against him but rejected the state’s authority to forbid him to strike his wife.  His wife said she was beaten frequently, but chose not to complain in order to avoid creating tensions within the family.
