Gimmel - from discussion with judea

(1/1)

q_q_:
Summary of discussion..

yemenites (With the exception of the Sanaani Temanim)
 Gimmel-dot           J
 Gimmel-dotless      Gh (french R)
They have a G, because they mispronounce Quf as Guf.

ivrit and ashkenazim and most Sefaradim
 Gimmel-dot             G
 Gimmel-dotless        G

Saadya Gaon (and semani [temanim] yemenites?)
  Gimmel-dot       G
  Gimmel-dotless  Gh

h is a convention, it means without the dot. dot/dagesh hardens the consonant.
Bh, Gh, Dh, Kh, Pf, Th

Is your dotless Gimmel, a Rimmel or a Grrr immel i.e. does it still start with a G? ?

Are there any differences between Saadya Gaon`s pronounciation and the Semani Yemenites?

judeanoncapta:
No, the dotless Ghimmel does not still start with a G.

And the Sanaani Yemenite and the Shita of Rav Saady Gaon are identical because they are both correct.
