(IsraelNN.com) Visiting Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said he did not know his grandfather was Jewish until political rivals publicized the fact in an election campaign three years ago. Tusk said his grandfather was forced to serve in Hitler's army.
"My Kashubian family, like the Jews, are people who were born and live in border areas and were suspected by the Nazis and by the Communists of being disloyal," he told the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz. Relating to his family's past, he noted, "If there's one country that can be trusted to understand the complexity of history, it's Israel."
