it's impossible for animals to be 'evil'! If animals APPEAR to be evil...it's a result of their owners' evil

--- End quote ---

Animals have the ability to be good or evil. As I said its rare. Evil animals exist in the wild without owners.

Another example is the Killer whale will play with a seal and finally kill it and leave it uneaten.

Killing for no reason is evil.

Boeregeneraal:
but that's their nature!

Implying that animals can be evil...would imply that animals have souls  :o

Animals do have souls, just not souls like humans.

They are not empty shells.

Boeregeneraal:
rememer, animals can't distinguish between right and wrong...good and evil...so it's merely in their nature. Besides, how would an animal become evil?

I do not deny the possibility of what you say.  However, what I have heard other people define as a soul is someone or something that is capable of knowing right from wrong and being able to control the animal instincts they have been given and used even ina proper way.  Dogs and other animals are incapable of doing that and essentially do things and behave in such ways for food for example.

Now, in my own experience, there is something special about certain pets and dogs etc etc.  Sometimes I think they know when you are sad about something and come by your side to comfort you..it happened when my grandfather passed away and startd weeping and my dog came to my room, put her paws on my lap (she never does that unless i ask her to) and started licking my face in a way that I perceived as comfort for whatever pain she noticed i was having.

So...who knows?  Maybe they do have a certain type of soul.  I don't know.  However, I will stand by the full truth that ALL animals should be dealth with kindness and certain animals, such as dogs, are meant to be domesticated and evolve with humans. IT can be a matter of dispute if a dog should live within one's domain.  However, dogs are not clean animals and if one wanted to be safe about something religiously, and wanted to have a dog, then it should be permitted that they have the dog, but live outside of the domain of which another human lives.  The best way to do this, in my opinion, is to have a big backyard where it can run around all day like dogs like to do and have a shelter for it on those rainy cold days.
