Two weeks after a shooting attack claimed the lives of eight students at the Merkaz Harav Yeshiva in Jerusalem, a rabbi at the Ateret Cohenim Yeshiva was in moderate condition on Tuesday after being stabbed at Damascus Gate in the Old City.

According to the report, MDA teams arrived at the scene and treated the 49-year-old man for a stab wound to the throat before rushing him to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital.

Police were searching for the attacker, who fled the scene.

The attack comes despite an increased police presence throughout the country ahead of Purim.

Police were put on high alert on Monday out of fears that Hizbullah would try to perpetrate a terror attack to coincide with the holiday. In February, Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah blamed Israel for the assassination of the organization's terror chief, Imad Mughniyeh, and vowed to avenge his death.
