What do you think? Today is the 26th aniversary of the war. I voted Yes to the British Sovereignty, as it is the natives' will.

I go with what the people of the Falklands say but that was a careless and senseless war. Galtieri was an idiot.

hmmmmm who voted against the Islanders???????? UN's calls to negotiations and denying them self determination are pretty similar to anti-Israeli resolutions!!! When I was a teen, I followed the votes in the UN and, more than 100 countries voted agaisnt the Falklands.... the same they did to Israel. National Arab and 3rd world pride seems to be more important to the UN than natives' rights.

I don't know much about the Falkland Wars, all I know is that British had control of it and Argentina wanted it and tried to invade and lost, can someone explain what the war was over?

If I would be a citizen of the Falkland Islands I would vote for Independence!  :)

(Even when I would be Britain or Argentinian myself)

If there would be a chance for this in Germany - I will not hesitate  :)

Britain and Argentina are today socialist countries - They should create a new state in the spirit of Chaim ben PesachO0 O0 O0

I don't know/don't care exept What natives you speak abut Raul Mario? they're all European colonists from GB (Scotland maybe) settled in 1833, When the Britts kicked out Spanish/Argentinian settlers who kicked out earlier French settlers IRC. Only point is that Brits were under Margaret Thacher who I adore and Argentinian Junta was backed up by Soviets who I hate so... ::) But now both state are as discusting as you can get. Gold fesant have right Israel under Chaim leadership can claim it. ;)
Jeremiah 8:11-17

11 They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. Peace, peace, they say, when there is no peace.

12 Are they ashamed of their loathsome conduct? No, they have no shame at all; they do not even know how to blush. So they will fall among the fallen; they will be brought down when they are punished, says the LORD.

13 'I will take away their harvest, declares the LORD. There will be no grapes on the vine. There will be no figs on the tree, and their leaves will wither. What I have given them will be taken from them.'

14 Why are we sitting here? Gather together! Let us flee to the fortified cities and perish there! For the LORD our God has doomed us to perish and given us poisoned water to drink, because we have sinned against him.

15 We hoped for peace but no good has come, for a time of healing but there was only terror.

16 The snorting of the enemy's horses is heard from Dan; at the neighing of their stallions the whole land trembles. They have come to devour the land and everything in it, the city and all who live there.

17 See, I will send venomous snakes among you, vipers that cannot be charmed, and they will bite you, declares the LORD.

To Golden: Islanders cannot afford the defence of the Islands alone. It would be very difficult for them to become independent and protect themselves from any threat. Theu have enough resources but a small population not used to wars. Perhaps they should be given specials seats in the British Parliament, but it's up to them to claim that.

To Dhimmi: Northern Ireland, Scottland and Wales are part of the UK, and so Brits themselves. In fact Brittons applies more to Celts than to Anglos, so you are mistaken. In your view, you'd expell Brits from their own land!!! And if you mean Englishmen out, then why dividing a peacefull kingdom???
And British are not in the Falkland, they just have an army to protect the Islanders. There is a great autonomy for natives, they even have their own Parliament, flag and currency. ( I was just trying to get some coins for collection, but here in Argentina..... it may de difficult....)

How funny :::D I was always flamed for rejecting colonialism and slavery, and now someone criticizes the Islanders and calls them colonists!!!! They came from Europe, true, but the Islands was the only place in America with no other natives, so they are considered natives or first come. They did not kick out any population, there were only military bases before them. The few Argentinian settlers stayed and mixed with them, and their descendants are not identifiable today. All inhabittants are one people with one will.
Why would Israel claim it? Under a Sanhedrin and a king, Jews were allowed to add land to thier territory but.... in that case let's start with Iran, Iraq, Syria....
Anyway, in modern times, it would be unthinkable that Jews would conquer peacefull nations. Where would Gentiles live????????

Many in my Italian family were pro-British, especially my mother since her teens, at the time of WWII. By the way this village was built by British, and the land on which my house stands belonged formerly to a British company. The railway station (now dismantled) had all signals in English, and the building is Enflish style and resembles some Flaklands houses.

British influence in Argentina is of course extensive. Besides the governmental issues and what not, the Brits introduced Argentines to soccer. In Buenos Aires you can still find a few of those old english telephone booths. If students take up English as a second language it'll definitely be British English and not American.

Yes, In fact I learned British English. And this place was so British that the house I used to live in (next to where I live now) has its roof made of iron sheets with TM written in English. But now there aren't any British descendants here. All this village belonged to an English company which sold it to settlers of different origin. In this case the company had previously bought the land legally, but in southern places lands were quit from natives.

How does Briton apply more to Celts than Anglos? I don't get your point. By British I meant the government of the UK. I am not in favor of expelling anyone from any land. What I am in favor of the British government withdrawing militarily and politically from Ireland, Scotland, and Wales giving these nations full independence. The British should also withdraw militarily and politically from the Falkland Islands although I have no preference as to whether they become independent or become a part of Argentina.

Well, if you mean the UK Govt it's a different issue. Scotts Irish and Welsh nations independent....it's up to them. Do they wish it?
Falkland Islanders say they are satisfied with British, so noone can object their decision.

If it were up to the Irish Ireland would be free and united. A majority of Scots now support independence, they have recently been pushing for a referedum in Scotland. And about 25% of Welsh  want indepenedence. There has been alot of growing support for independence in Celtic nations- in no small part due to the massive third world Islamic immigration to the UK most of whom settle in England. They do not feel a part of the new "multicultural UK" and nor do they wish to be a part of it.

I don't know all that much about the Falklands, I just believe the British had no right to colonize it in the first place.

Paradoxically all American countries were born through colonization, and most people here support USA and other countries.... The Falkland is the only Western non-European nation which was built without colonization, they were simple desert when Brits discovered them.
Would you say USA should withdraw from Hawaii and Alaska? And those lands do have natives!!!
Islanders have never removed any natives, they have came to live there, and chosen to be an autonomous British territory. What's the problem JUST with them????? 100 votes in the UN, the same votes who condemn Israel!!!!!
