Man bashed outside his own home
The incident occurred at about 11.40pm when the 34-year-old man heard noises outside and went to investigate, discovering several people walking in his front yard and up the side of his house.
The man went outside and confronted the youths, telling them to leave.
The youths left the scene but returned shortly after with a group of up to seven friends.
The group set upon the man outside his house, with an attacker smashing a bottle into his face, knocking him to the ground where he was repeatedly kicked by the group and struck in the face with another bottle.
The victim’s wife came to his aid and they were able to escape inside and call police.
The attackers then threw a length of wood at the front door before fleeing the scene on foot.
The man suffered serious injuries and lacerations to his face, neck and ear as a result of the assault.
Wagga crime manager Detective Inspector Rod Smith described the assault as disgusting.
“This happened in a very quiet street within Glenfield,” he said.
“The victim of this assault was only doing what many people would do in protecting their family and property.
“He was set upon by a group of cowardly animals.”
Det Insp Smith urged anyone with information to contact Wagga police on 6921 0544 or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
