Israelis to go vertical take-off

(1/4) > >>

Mifletzet:
Rather than wait until 2012 for delivery of the F35, and the inevitable rain of Iranian, Hizbollah, Syrian and even Egyptian missiles on their three well zeroed-in easily disabable airfields, the Israelis should already buy now half a squadron of second-hand Harriers from the US Marines, Spaniards or Indians, as an emergency precaution, so that they've at least got some kind of immediate emergency vertical take-off nuclear retaliation capability.

mord:
It's not very fast and is pretty short range

Mifletzet:
The Harrier's invaluable ability to take off vertically from an unprepared clearing, and ability to lug a 200kT nuclear bomb 1400 miles at 675mph is a tremendous deterrent that Israel should have had already years ago, should its 3 airbases, its one at a time at sea Dolphin submarines and its Bet Shemesh Jericho II missile silo all be simultaneously taken out, which is not implausible!

Harzel:
Israel is not going to by the VSTOL version of the F-35, It will opt the regular TOL which has better combat performances.

The idea of purchasing Harriers just to keep another nuclear delivery platform is completely wrong, it would be far better and cheaper to use mobile launchers of ballistic and cruise missiles for that purpose.

BTW the AV-8b (Harrier 2) is basically obsolete. It is only used by the Marines and Royal Navy for lack of better options.

Mifletzet:
According to the report, some of the F35s will be the vertical take off version.

With enemies like we have, one can never have too many nuclear delivery systems.

Already years ago the Harrier's performance was passe, but the USMC still said "all we want is more Harriers!" because of its unique ability.

With the Syrians in Moscow now ordering scores more point-accurate Scarabs and Iskanders

it would not take many to take Israel's airbases out of commission.

As the Arabs have shown repeatedly, they are not afraid to preemptively attack a nuclear-armed Israel: they actually want to die, so let's have all the diverse platforms we can so as to be able to oblige them.

As Rav Kahane said: "One thing I can assure you when I am prime minister: if we are attacked, I will be the first to press the button!".
