Anti-Semitic, ageist, and other hate speech “paid for by Obama for America”

Even though each page carries the disclaimer, “Content on blogs in My.BarackObama represents the opinions of community members and in no way should be interpreted as endorsed or approved by the campaign,” the campaign’s proven exercise of editorial control over the site negates this disclaimer and makes it responsible for the content. It has been argued that some of the hate speech was posted by Republicans and/or Hillary Clinton operatives to make Obama look bad. If we accept this argument, we must also accept the likelihood that the material about John McCain having an age-related neurodegenerative disease is being planted by campaign staffers who post under assumed, and possibly multiple, screen names. The disclaimer and “incomplete” editorial control would in fact be convenient excuses for the Obama campaign to use My.Barackobama.com as a platform to spread this rumor.
