I quite just like that! But to help my father quit, a smoker of 35 years, I bought him nicotine patches and they seem to help. He did not touch a cigarette for 7-8 years now. Try them, if you think you can't do it on your own. For me to quite, a story of Charles de Gaulle quit was inspirational:
"You announce to everyone within earshot that you are quitting smoking."
BTW, this is exactly what he did and he stopped cold turkey, after smoking 2-3 packs of Gallouise for G-d knows how long.

PS Oh yes, one thing really helps- start aerobic activities - running, walking, swimming, playing soccer, elyptical machines - you'll be amazed how long you can go without a craving after you done.
