I call Tom Brokaw Tom Lockjaw, lets be fair he had no control over this thing.  And what kind of questions were these.  This was a Town Hall where they select questions, which means he selects them.  I mean they came up with very leftist thing, come on now Green job for the enviroment is right out of the page of the Democrats.

MW, are you sure you are posting to the correct topic? We are discussing a fast day to cry out to Hashem to prevent Obama from winning.

--- Quote from: Tzvi Ben Roshel on October 08, 2008, 12:46:16 AM --- A good idea people might concider. Maybe instead of making a no-eating fast (which is good, but isn't used the way its supposed to in todays day by most people.)

What's the proper way?

When Jews used to fast, the main thing on their head wasn't food and hunger (like it is in many cases today). They fasted, and used the time to pray to G-d, learn Torah etc. Same thing tommorow, when people fast on Yom Kippur, please use the time meaningfully. Dont preoccupy your thoughts with food, or whatever and how hungry you feel (which actually makes it worse, and if you think about hunger and how you want to eat, then you will want to eat more and it will hurt). You mind as well use the time productivly- go to shul, pray with some intent at least. Maybe take a little rest during the day if you have to, but overall make it a meaningful.
(By the way I didn't imply that fasting is not good, but what I meant was that making additional fasts, etc. do not necessarily work that great with most people, and it is not for everyone, but still better then nothing- my suggestion was not to speak, so less Lashon Hara would be said, etc. which would be more productive).

There was something on Free Republic and it a great quote from the Bible.

2 Chronicles 7:14

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Plus there is this on FR.
