Pak snubs US, UK over Mumbai evidence
« on: December 28, 2008, 09:47:50 PM »
Pakistan has rejected evidence provided by US and Britain about the involvement of its nationals in India's last month Mumbai attacks.
US and UK intelligence officials have said that the Pakistani-based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba's (LeT) commander, Zaki al- Rahman Lakhvi, was the mastermind behind the Mumbai terror attacks, media reports said Sunday.

The intercepts provided by American and British intelligence agencies show that the gunmen involved in the Mumbai attacks had cell-phone conversations with Lakhvi even while they were holed up inside the luxury Taj hotel during the 60-hour siege that resulted in the killing of at least 179 people.

Sources also said that a confession by a sole surviving militant, Ajmal Amir Kasab, was also being shared with the Pakistani authorities.

However, Pakistan has rejected all this, claiming that Kasab's confession and other evidences were inadmissible in court.

Pakistani unnamed officials have said that since the confessions had been obtained under severe pressure by the Indians, this could not be admissible in judicial process. They have insisted that the information provided would not stand scrutiny in any court.

US, British and Indian officials have blamed Pakistan-based militant groups for the Mumbai attacks, which have provoked a sharp rise in rhetoric between Pakistan and India, which are both nuclear armed.

US supports India and accuses Pakistan of providing a safe haven for Taliban, al-Qaeda and other terror groups - an excuse the US forces in Afghanistan use to pound Pakistani border towns.

There have been reports of possible forthcoming "surgical" strikes by India on the headquarters and camps of LeT in Pakistan. Pakistani troops are also strengthening some positions on the Line of Control in divided Kashmir and the towns of Kasur and Sialkot.

Pak666 was always a thief, decoit, plunderer and terrorist.

As usual the time is passing out fast for the surgical strikes if any.
