The White House repeats a call on Hamas to strike a long-lasting ceasefire deal with Israel and stop the 'provocative' act of launching rockets. "In order for the violence to stop, Hamas must stop firing rockets into Israel and agree to respect a sustainable and durable ceasefire," AFP quoted spokesman Gordon Johndroe as saying on Sunday.
On Saturday Washington blamed Hamas for provoking Tel Aviv and called on the movement to stop its rocket attacks on Israel.
"That is the objective to which all parties need to be working. That is what the United States is working towards," Johndroe said.
The Israeli air strikes on Gaza have so far killed at least 345 people while leaving 1,550 more wounded.
On Sunday, the US blocked a UN Security Council resolution that called for an immediate halt to the ongoing assaults on Gaza.
