An Iranian newspaper has been banned after publishing an article which authorities say has condoned Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip. The Iranian Culture Ministry banned the publication of the centrist daily Kargozaran, after it published a statement by a radical group blaming pro- resistance factions and countries for the current situation in the Gaza Strip.
The newspaper's recent move was in clear violation of Iran's press law, said Mohammad Parvizi of the Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry on Wednesday.
He added that Iran's Press Supervisory Board will refer the newspaper's case to court.
Parvizi said the statement portrayed Palestinian fighters as terrorists who take shelter in kindergartens and hospitals and provoke Israeli bombardments leading to the death of children and civilians.
Kargozaran Managing Director Morteza Sajjadian on Wednesday and acknowledged that publishing the statement was a mistake.
“In the past week most of the articles and material published by this newspaper had been in support of Gaza's civilians and the publication of this statement was an unintentional mistake,” he said.
According to Sajjadian, the daily was to publish a public apology in its Thursday's issue.
