I'm a history buff, self-taught. What struck me when I first read this headline was a thought about the Cuban missile crisis. In order to get Krushcev (sp?) to remove his nuclear missiles from Cuba, Kennedy promised that the United States would end its efforts to overthrow Castro. It was a mixed bag; of course, we can be thankful that there was not a nuclear exchange, but Castro remains a pain in the arse, even after the fall of the Soviet Union.
This time, Obama blinked before the Iranians got their nukes in order. And the Iranians can further consolidate their good position by agreeing to negotiations, which they can in turn draw out until the nuclear program produces fruit.
And if so, then I don't think that the Iranian leadership will sit on their nukes for 45+ years with Israel sitting right next door, or with an opportunity to perhaps slip a nuke on a cargo ship heading to the United States. I wrote this yesterday: that leader in Iran is portrayed as a nutcase, but he's been handed victory after victory over the last few weeks ..... more or less since Obama was elected.
