Seven-term Congressman Roy Blunt of Missouri's 7th District will announce his intention to run for the U.S. Senate Thursday, GOP sources tell Prime Buzz.
Blunt, a 59-year-old Republican, will stop in four cities Thursday, beginning with St. Louis at 9:30 a.m.
No Kansas City stop is scheduled Thursday, but the congressman, a long-time House GOP leader, will be in Kansas City Friday for the Missouri GOP's annual Lincoln Days celebration.
Blunt's entry into the race has been long expected. The leading Democratic candidate is two-term Secretary of State Robin Carnahan.
Both are seeking to replace four-term Sen. Kit Bond who has announced that he won't seek another term.
Blunt also will stop in Jefferson City for a 12:30 news conference at the State Capitol where he once worked as secretary of state himself. He'll follow that with stops in Cape Girardeau and Carthage in his home congressional district.
One big question for Republicans: Will former state treasurer Sarah Steelman run for the Senate, too, setting up a Republican primary?

This is excellent news. Roy Blunt has a strong record of Conservatism. This is going to be one of the most important elections in the entire United States, next year.
