Sikh journalist throws shoe at India's Home minister
« on: April 07, 2009, 08:28:20 AM »
 NEW DELHI, India (CNN) -- A journalist hurled a shoe at the Indian home minister, apparently in anger over his Congress party fielding a leader who had been accused of leading anti-Sikh riots in New Delhi in the aftermath of the assassination of Indira Gandhi in 1984.

Security personnel caught hold of the journalist, identified as Jarnail Singh, and took him into custody after the incident, which happened as Home Minister P. Chidambaram held a news conference in New Delhi.

Singh was later let off without charge, Delhi police spokesman Rajan Bhagat said.

The journalist had hurled the shoe when the minister refused to comment on his party nominating Jagdish Tytler, a lawmaker from the Congress party.

"Let not emotional action of one person hijack the entire press conference," Chidambaram remarked after the incident.

Recently, India's federal police recommended withdrawal of the case against Tytler, citing lack of credible evidence.

Official figures say about 3,000 Sikhs were lynched and burned alive by mobs after Gandhi was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguards.

 :::D This was great!

The home minister is from Pro-Muslim Congress Party who have been accused to protect politicians who were involved in killing Sikhs during 1984 riots.

So we should support these sikhs especially the actions of this journalist?

Injustice should be brought to justice with the thoughtfulness in history

The Congress Party is the least secular of all Indian political parties, because it is a de facto muslim party, as it is the only politicaly party the muslims vote for.

Sikhs are born patriots, nationalists and defenders of India.

3000 Sikhs were lynched by Gandhi supporters?  I thought Gandhi was supposed to be this advocate for nonviolence.

There is somewhat difference between Gandhi and Gandhi.

We need to get Jarnail Singh over to a ball field and get him to practice his throw! We'll have him hurling shoes at 100 miles per hour with pinpoint accuracy when were done with him.  ;D
