Today is my birthday. I am 36 years old today. This is the time of year when I typically take stock of my life, as many people do on their birthday. I think about what I have accomplished and what I have failed to accomplish. And in years past, I've typically made resolutions about various things I would like to improve over the next year.
There are usually mundane though worthy things that have been on my list (getting in better physicall shape, reading certain books, being a better father and husband).
This year, there is only one thing I want. I want to be a better Jew. That's it. I have not been a particularly observant Jew up until now, having been raised and immersed in a completely secular environment. But Rabbi Kahane (of blessed memory) has had a tremendous impact on my life, and I am convinced logically that of all the things I could be, being a good Jew is the best thing to be.
If you have a birthday wish for me, wish me success in my task of becoming a better Jew. That's the only thing I want.
