12 billion dollers is a lot of money why are israeli leaders and generals  listning to obama  >:(

JERUSALEM (AFP) – Israel has dropped out of a multi-billion dollar joint venture with a Swedish firm to develop new fighter jets for India because of U.S. pressure, a newspaper reported on Monday.

Israel Aerospace Industries was planning to develop a new model of the Swedish-made Gripen fighter jet with its manufacturer, Saab, to compete in a tender to sell the planes to India's armed forces, the Jerusalem Post said.

But the state-owned firm backed out on the orders of the Israeli defense ministry “after the Pentagon expressed concern that American technology, used by Israel, would be integrated into the Gripen,” the newspaper said.

It said Washington had likely pressured its close ally because two major U.S. aircraft manufacturers -- Boeing and Lockheed Martin -- are also participating in the tender for more than 120 aircraft estimated at 12 billion dollars (8.5 billion euros).

“This is not the first time that the defense ministry forced a local company out of a deal due to concerns that competition with American companies would cause friction with the United States,” it said.

In 2008, the defense ministry ordered Israel Military Industries not to submit a bid for a 500 million-dollar deal for the manufacture of a new tank for Turkey because it would have been in competition with U.S. firms, it said.

Israel replaced France in 2007 as India's second-largest arms supplier after Russia and could grab the number one slot through a vast array of defense agreements already signed with New Delhi.

In May, India took delivery of its first Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) plane as part of a deal with Israel worth more than one billion dollars.

Well it's clear the article is from Agence France-Presse. The initials are there before the article. What we must question is why would an Iranian news website put this on it's website? Just look at the articles they host, it's not just any articles, there is an obvious agenda here.

I just hope people realize this. As far as the contract is concern, I don't see a problem here. I don't want our technologies going to every country. God forbid we should return to the days where private companies sold our technologies to the Soviets. We need to learn from history. Such technology can't be given away like candy.

On the same grounds F-16 and F-18 will be out of the contest.

Raffale and Typhoon will be too costly and the only remnant Mig-35 will have to incorporate some advanced Israeli avionics as in Sukhoi-30 MKI, however their terms and conditions may get slightly tougher and India may be slightly a sufferer.

The problem with this is usa is also trying to sell the same technology to india with latest version of f16IN/block70. In order to make sure that they get the upperhand in this contract they forced israel to back down.

It is our technology, again, is there a problem here? The dominant power getting a contract over little Israel? Why are you even surprised?

Teutonic Knight why do you think india and israel should not jointly develop defence equipment in the future?

Ashish, you are jumping to conclusions. What makes you think I don't want Israel and India to develop defense equipment? You two are free to do what you like. But with our technological advances can't be made available to everyone.

Non receipt of technology almost always creates alternative resources and indigenous developments. India should not go for technologies whose supplies may be either unsure or may be laden with too many preconditions or operating hassles.
