I think if you look at the first maps showing Greek/Roman conquest, the term Asia was everything East of what is Turkey.  An example would be: http://www.infoplease.com/atlas/asia.html 

But racially, I guess you'd be correct.  The race stuff isn't particularly my forte.

That's funny - when I heard he was Asian - your user name did flash thru my mind  ;) - another forum member I know said the same thing.
