The shul is having a break fast, so whatever they are offering I guess...   I would eat pizza or something if I had any.

I would eat something you like to eat. And drink a coke. But I really have no idea. I think everyone needs to find out for himself.

I do not advise drinking a coke before the fast. This always has the effect of causing a Caffeine headache by the middle of Yom Kippur afternoon. I stopped drinking coke a day before the fast so that I would not have any ill effects from caffeine withdrawal...

Jews who fast every year have learned the best ways to avoid the headaches...

You shall make yourself the Festival of Sukkoth for seven days, when you gather in [the produce] from your threshing floor and your vat.And you shall rejoice in your Festival-you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your maidservant, and the Levite, and the stranger, and the orphan, and the widow, who are within your cities

It is important to drink alot during the day to saturate the body with fluids.

I certainly agree with this... One of the biggest strains is the dehydration due to the fact that we cannot drink liquids during the fast. I did drink a lot of water, and stopped drinking caffeine products, and this year I did not get the headache I got a couple of years ago...

To break the fast the best thing is to eat only a little at first. After your body accepts the small amount of food then it is better equipped to handle a larger quantity of food. Last night I had a little bit of a stomach ache... I think it may be because I ate some sugary cakes to break the fast. I don't think i will do that again next year..

Too late. The second the fast ended, that's what I took. Followed by 2 bowls of Life, a tuna sandwich, a salad with french or russian dressing (I forgot which), a piece of cheese lasagna, and a piece of brocoli and cheese quiche (unless it was spinach and cheese). Afew cups of coke and juice in between, plus the Yankee game, and a few smokes, I was all better. Of course I do have a cold, so refuah sheleimah to me.

Is that beyond the prescribed dosage?  I don't know what gravol is?

I took a multivitamin this morning.

Wow, sounds harsh... I would not take it due to the side effects. I have told doctors I will not take certain medications because of the known side-effects..

I hope your fast next year is less difficult. I didn't feel like throwing up but my stomach was aching this morning. I hope you take the prescribed dose because the side effects sound dangerous.

Caffeine is dehydrating, and it is important to have water before and after a fast because humans can only go so long without water, and most of the difficulty from fasting is caused by the decreased levels of water in the body.  It is much more critical to have water than to have food.   And dehydration can cause people to have headaches, stomach pains etc.     But you're right that caffeine is really bad for you after a fast because it clears water out of your system in a time when you need to replenish with some water.

Why?   If you take take it slow and have a little bit of food gradually rather than pigging out right away, you should be fine.
