European Union foreign ministers are expected to officially call next week for the division of Jerusalem, according to a draft document obtained by Haaretz. A Tuesday report in the newspaper says the
document implies that the EU would recognize a unilateral Palestinian Authority declaration of statehood.The document - to be discussed at a two-day Brussels meeting on the peace process starting on December 7 - expresses the EU's concern over the deadlock in the peace process and calls for the immediate renewal of negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority in accordance with a prescribed timetable. The newspaper says that Israel is waging a diplomatic campaign to keep the EU from issuing such an endorsement, but diplomats close to the EU deliberations believe it is virtually inevitable.
