(IsraelNN.com) Defense Minister Ehud Barak (Labor) condemned the perpetrators of the fire at the Kafr Yasuf mosque on Friday and called the incident “extremely severe.”

The Shomron Regional Council rejected reports that local Jews were responsible for the fire and the council noted that some books and a carpet were burned and not the mosque itself. The statement added that on the surface, the vandalism initially described by the IDF Spokesperson’s Office was that of a mentally-ill person or a staged provocation against local Jews. The council called on journalists to be responsible and stick to the facts rather than inject their personal opinions or political agendas into the story.
