It's a tragic story all around, they had to kill the animal, and people including a child got hurt. Very sad.  : (

This animal must have been terrified to attack people. I blame the zoo officials  for not making the enclosure more escape-proof. It's difficult to keep great apes enclosed because of their extreme intelligence and ability to figure out escape routes in an almost human-like fashion. However that's no excuse and the zoo failed to protect this beautiful animal and the safety of the guests of the zoo. I hope they have to pay for all the medical costs. This is so wrong! A zoo should be a place of safety for the animals within it, especially rare animals like gorillas. A zoo should also be a safe place to visit regardless of the dangerous animals housed there.

Did you see the story about the gorilla that held the little boy and kept him safe until zoo staff could rescue him? Everybody got upset when they saw her pick him up but she just held him gently and protectively and warded off other gorillas. He had fallen into the enclosure and was knocked unconscious and she kind of mothered him.
