If this where needed, on a large scale around the US, things won't be very good.
Long distant travel and commerce, might be a problem.
A few folks have tried to set up gold or silver backed systems.
Most have not made it.
These local currencies have problems with setting exchange rates for goods and services.
An example is:
When these local groups start, they usually value all labor as equal.
The problem is: an hour of my labor is not equal(in value) to hour of labor from my doctor.
Normally the group that starts it, tries to set price controls.
That may or may not make sense.
IF free market forces are allowed to work, this usually works out.
After some time.
The 2ND big problem, is counterfeits.
Most local currencies won't have the safeguards that the Feds have built into their currency.
That said, I think it is a good idea to look at.
IF the dollar has problems, this might be the next best answer.
