The nation's largest public policy women's organization is appalled that leading feminists, including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, continue to give Muslims a pass when it comes to their treatment of women.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a U.S.-based pro-Muslim group, says evangelist Franklin Graham should not be allowed to speak at next Thursday's National Day of Prayer event on Capitol Hill. CAIR's national legislative director, Corey Saylor, says Capitol Hill is no place for bigotry. But Congressman Robert Aderholt, a sponsor of the Capitol's National Day of Prayer observance, says Graham is no bigot, as shown by his ministry's relief work in Islamic nations. The Alabama Republican says he believes Graham's remarks on Islam have been "blown out of proportion" and should not disqualify him from speaking and praying on Capitol Hill.

CAIR has already been successful in getting the Pentagon to disinvite Graham from a similar event , criticizing him for comments he had made about the religion's violent teachings -- among them, the religion's tenets concerning women.

Wendy WrightWendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America (CWA), is shocked at how Islam treats women. "Concerned Women for America has been vocal in denouncing the appalling way that Muslims treat women, and we're sorry that the feminists are not willing to join us in denouncing radical Islam," she comments.

"Hillary Clinton has a responsibility, not only as a leader of the feminist movement, but [also] as the secretary of state of the United States, to speak out against forces that are damaging and destructive to the United States. And she has the ability -- because she is our main ambassador to other countries -- to defend the dignity of women," Wright adds.

The CWA president notes that her organization is very disappointed that women in America who claim they are fighting for women's rights have been silent against a violent religion that treats women as if they are sub-human.
