http://action.afa.net/Blogs/BlogPost.aspx?id=2147494294We have charged from the beginning of the debate that passing the Employment Non-Discrimination Act will force conscience- and principle-driven businessowners to hire transgenders, transsexuals, transvestites and cross-dressers of all varieties.
Radical queer activists always accuse us of hyperventilating and exaggerating when we make such claims.
Well, tell that to American Eagle Outfitters, not even a conscience-driven enterprise according to my understanding, which has been forced by the attorney general of New York, Andrew Cuomo, to hire boys who want to dress up like girls.
Notice the use of the words "forced" in paragraph one and "crackdown" in paragraph five. So much for the constitutional right to freedom of association in New York. And good luck if you are a Christian businessman anywhere in the United States if ENDA goes through.
Excerpts from the New York Daily Post:
Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has forced the
flannel and khaki outpost to make some changes,
including nixing a rule about employee "personal
appearance" that banned men from wearing women's
clothing and ladies from dressing as guys.
"This shows me that there's faith and hope. There
might be a domino effect, that's what I'm hoping
for," said Joi-elle White, 35, a transgender member
of Make the Road New York...
The retailer - which employs more than 2,000
people in its 61 New York stores - signed a
settlement deal promising to change its policies and
employee handbook.
The chain store also has agreed to train its staff on
transgender issues - like which pronouns to use
when referring to workers and customers.
The April settlement is the first crackdown against a
retailer under the section of the state's Human
Rights Law that bars employers from discriminating
against applicants because of their gender identity.
