A 24-year-old man from the east Jerusalem village of Akab was killed early Friday in a brawl between a group of Jews and a group of Arabs on Hillel Street in Jerusalem's city center.
According to the police, some of the people involved in the fight were intoxicated. Two of them were arrested.
Two people were seriously and light injured in the incident. The victim was evacuated by a Magen David Adom crew to the Shaare Zedek Medical Center, where he died of his wounds shortly afterwards. His body was transferred to the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute.
The police were on high alert across the capital on Friday morning for fear of disturbances due to the popular uprising in Egypt. Forces were deployed around the Temple Mount and in the Old City alleys ahead of the Friday prayers.
