An anti-illegal immigration group in Iowa has condemned a mock school shooting drill that is scheduled for March 26.

According to The Associated Press, Treynor High School has scheduled a four-hour exercise that would include government officials, police, firefighters and local hospitals. The fictitious scenario involves an angry teen vehemently opposed to illegal immigration who becomes violently angry after an influx of minorities enter the neighborhood.

Doug Reed, the exercise director, said that by incorporating the illegal immigration issue, the school was able to secure Homeland Security grants to fund the event, the media outlet reported. In order to receive funding, the exercise needed to be about terrorism. The mock shooter at Treynor uses violence to intimidate a population as a means to further a political and social objective, which qualifies as terrorism.

Robert Ussery, state director of Iowa Minuteman, an anti-illegal immigration group, criticized the scenario for attempting to "to paint people who believe in enforcing our laws as criminals," the news source reported.

"If they want to do a terrorism exercise, they could do one with a terrorist coming across our southern border and attacking our schools," Ussery added.

The scenario links American gun owners with terrorism as well. According to The Des Moines Register, the fictional suspect has a quick-tempered father who is a firearms enthusiast with ties to an underground white supremacy group.
