I like the AK47. The cut at the muzzle, sort of on a 45 degree angle makes it so that there is no upward recoil. Instead the rifle tends to push straight back and seems more accurate. If you want something that is good but doesn't look too much like an assault rifle try to get a Ruger Mini-14, preferably in stainless steel. They come with ten round clips nowadays but 30 round clips are not hard to find. Oh, and if you get an AK you might be able to locate one of those 75 round barrel clips, like the old Thompson's had. IF you like to reload ammo there is plenty of .223 brass out there for the Ruger and it is still easy to get brass for the 7.62x39 AK round. Be careful buying foreign 7.62 ammo because a lot of it is cheap but they use corrosive primers and powders and it eats up barrels.
My pride and joy however is my M-14. There is nothing that parallels the 7.62x51 (308 winchester) round that it fires. To me it's a real gun; a bit heavy but it has substance to it. Lots of brass and bullets still around for it too if you want to reload yourself. Hope that this helps.
