Iraq crisis: Barack Obama orders 'Hellfire missile' drones into Iraq skies:

US steps up its military involvement in Middle East as Predator drone strikes take to Iraq skies amid Isis jihadists offensive :

President Barack Obama has ordered Predator drones armed with Hellfire missiles into the skies above Iraq as he steps up his military involvement in the Middle East.

The first Predator flights took off on Thursday, Pentagon officials told US media. It is not clear whether their remote pilots have orders to fire on the jihadists of Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham who control most Sunni areas of the country, though officials said they were intended to defend US interests like the embassy.

But drone strikes have been Mr Obama’s weapon of choice in America’s long war with jihadism as he seeks to avoid direct on-the-ground military intervention, and they have been deployed widely already against al-Qaeda and other groups in Pakistan and Yemen.

The confirmation that armed aircraft, based in Kuwait, have been added to the reconnaissance flights, both manned and unmanned, already flying over Iraq alongside drones from America’s once bitter regional rival Iran suggests Mr Obama is being drawn however unwillingly into military support for the government of Nouri al-Maliki, the prime minister.

ISIS Declares New Islamist Caliphate:
Militant Group Declares Statehood, Demands Allegiance From Other Organizations:

BAGHDAD—The Sunni Islamist militant group whose three-week blitz through northern Iraq has nearly upended the country's fragile unity announced itself as a new Islamist "caliphate" on Sunday, unilaterally declaring statehood and demanding allegiance from other Islamist groups.

The announcement, recited in Arabic on the first day of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan by spokesman Abu Mohammed Al Adnani into an audio file, effectively renames the group the Islamic State, canceling its previous title of the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, or ISIS.

"We have had all the requirements of the Islamic state like fundraising, almsgiving, penalties, and prayers and still have only one thing which is the caliphate," said Mr. Adnani in the recording. "The legality of all emirates, groups, states, and organizations, becomes null by the expansion of the caliph's authority and arrival of its troops to their areas."

The spokesman also declares the group's leader, Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi, as the new Islamic State's caliph. The recorded message was recorded on an Mp3 audio file and distributed through the group's expansive social media presence.

The announcement revives the idea of an Islamic caliphate that hasn't existed as a recognized political entity since it was abolished 90 years ago by Kemal Atatürk, the first president of modern Turkey.

There have been various caliphates throughout Islam's 1,400-year history. The last one, which was governed by the Istanbul-based Ottoman Empire, extended across vast lands throughout North Africa, the Persian Gulf, Eastern Europe, modern Greece and Iraq.

So at last someone another terrorist has dared to declare the formation of a new and last sunni Caliphate.

Russia completes Su-25 supplies to Iraq under earlier contracts:

The first five Su-25 planes had been delivered to Baghdad in disassembled parts aboard a Russian An-124-100 Ruslan transport plane.

MOSCOW, June 30. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia has completed Su-25 supplies to Iraq under earlier contracts, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

“At present, the supplies have been completed,” Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said.

Earlier, Iraq has requested Russia to urgently supply Su-25 (Frogfoot) ground attack aircraft over Washington’s delay in delivering F-16 fighters. A source from the military and diplomatic circles reported this to ARMS-TASS on Monday.

The Iraqi Defense Ministry has had to request Russian aircraft deliveries over the need to urgently raise the Iraqi army’s combat readiness in its fight against terrorists, the source said.

The source declined to specify the number of Su-25 planes to be supplied to Iraq to make up for the missing 18 F-16 fighters, which the Pentagon had earlier pledged to deliver.
