Syria war: Eastern Ghouta sees 'deadliest day' as battle rages
'Chlorine attack' suffocates 30 people, White Helmets say, as government forces resume offensive in rebel-held enclave.

A humanitarian aid convoy has not been able to unload supplies to residents trapped inside Syria's Eastern Ghouta, as government warplanes resumed bombarding the enclave, killing at least 70 people, according to a monitor.

Described as the "bloodiest" day since a Russian-sponsored truce failed to stop the onslaught and since a UN Security Council resolution was unsuccessful at implementing a 30-day ceasefire, Syrian government forces resumed the shelling of the Damascus suburb for the 16th consecutive day on Tuesday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said the bombardment of the enclave has killed more than 70 civilians since Monday evening.

Residents of Eastern Ghouta, which lies to the east of Damascus, have previously voiced their scepticism of a Russian-proposed "five-hour daily humanitarian pause" that began last Tuesday.

Turkey-backed forces capture Syrian Kurdish town of Afrin

By Zeynep Bilginsoy and Sarah El Deeb | AP March 18

ISTANBUL — Turkish military and allied Syrian forces marched into the center of the northern Syrian town of Afrin Sunday, raising their flags and shooting in the air in celebration nearly two months after launching their offensive on the Kurdish enclave. The advancing troops faced little resistance from the Kurdish militia that retreated and vowed to turn to guerrilla tactics.

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the capture of Afrin, previously controlled by the Kurdish militia known as the People’s Defense Units, or YPG.

“Many of the terrorists had turned tail and run away already,” Erdogan said in a speech in western Turkey. “In Afrin’s center, it is no longer the rags of the terror organization that are waving but rather the symbols of peace and security.”

The Kurdish militia called the assault on Afrin an “occupation” and vowed a “new phase” of guerrilla tactics against Turkish troops and its allied Syrian fighters

The global protracted war of the muslamic terrorist infighting due to their ever widening internal contradictions has begin to take different shapes. However the essence is the same and the Turks and the Kurds utterly dislike each other. Let them continue and Kurds must retaliate.

Motive a mystery in car explosion at Travis Air Force Base

Federal investigators on Friday said that the person who drove a burning minivan filled with propane and gas tanks into the front gate of Travis Air Force Base in Northern California was a 51-year-old Bay Area man originally from India.

Hafiz Kazi was a legal permanent resident and had lived in the United States since 1993, said Sean Ragan, FBI special agent in charge of the Sacramento field office. Kazi had lived in the Bay Area, including Sausalito, Ragan said, but his most recent place of residence was not known.

Investigators have yet to determine a motive for the Wednesday night attack or evidence that anyone else was involved.

"We don't have any nexus of terrorism at this point," Ragan said, adding that aspect of the case was still being investigated. "Now the question is, why. Why was he there? What led him there? And we don't know answers to that, quite frankly."

Kazi drove the Kia minivan through the front gate of the military base, which is near Fairfield, around 7 p.m. Wednesday. Security personnel saw flames inside the van, which crashed shortly after going through the gate, Ragan said.

Emergency responders initially did not know if it was an attack or some sort of mishap. But when they opened the doors to the minivan they found five propane tanks, three plastic one-gallon gas cans, several lighters, three phones and a gym bag with personal items, Ragan said.

The base's explosive ordnance disposal team quickly responded to the scene as did Air Force investigators, the FBI, fire crews and local police.

Kazi's body was severely burned, but coroner's officials were able to identify him through his fingerprints.

Ragan said investigators are trying to glean information from Kazi's phone and other items recovered from the scene. He said agents also are pursuing multiple leads to piece together Kazi's life and a possible motive.

The dead man's religious beliefs and affiliation are not known at this point, said Ragan, who debunked a rumor that some sort of "jihad" video was found on Kazi's phone.

Authorities were able to contact one of Kazi's relatives in India to inform them of his death, but there's no indication that person was interviewed as part of the investigation. Agents continue to search for any potential relatives or other people who knew Kazi.

Thus far, investigators have not found any evidence to indicate continuing threats to the air base, home to 7,000 active military members, or surrounding communities.

This muslamic terrorist must have been a pakistani piglet whose parents did not leave India during the partition.

Syria war: Attacks hit Syrian airbase in Homs province
Russia and Syria accuse Israel of attacking airbase near Palmyra, amid global outrage over chemical attack in Douma.

Missiles have struck a Syrian airbase in Homs province early on Monday, state media reported, with Russia and Syria blaming Israel for carrying out the attack.

Two Israeli warplanes, using Lebanese airspace, fired eight missiles at the T-4 military airbase, the Russian military said, but offered no further information.

The attack at the airbase, located 40km west of Palmyra, killed and wounded several people, Syrian state news agency SANA reported, citing an unnamed military source.

"The Israeli aggression on the T-4 airport was carried out with F-15 planes that fired several missiles from above Lebanese land," SANA quoted the source as saying, adding that eight missiles were shot down.

Some Lebanese media outlets said residents living near the northeastern border with Syria heard jets in the sky in the early morning hours, also suggesting that the attack may have been carried out by Israel.

An Israeli military spokeswoman did not want to comment on the Syria raid.
