I see medicare / medicaid people. The cost of performing certain (quite a few) procedures cost me more than what I am reimbursed by medicaid / medicare. My cousin is a psychiatrist who HAD an established practice until he was almost bankrupted by these government plans. The fees are very low, they are very slow to pay, often they substitute a cheaper fee.... will say they think you could have done X (cheaper) instead of Y, even though X may be below the standard of care (the people making those decisions often have NO medical training, they are civil service minorities given a job they are unqualified for and they dictate how you should treat patients)... basically, if you did their way it would be considered malpractice but they don't care.... Anyway, after several time paying payroll out of his personal account he closed his practice and went to the VA to work.
On top of the low fees, oBumma care is going to cut fees even lower (taking over 700 billion out of medicare).. also, they are limiting treatment - not paying for certain things. These "things" are often tests or procedures that need to be done.... without them you are taking a BIG chance on misdiagnosis or complications and when they occur that same government (that claims said tests or procedures are unnecessary) is going to revoke the providers license, possibly even criminal charges, you will be sued, etc. It doesn't matter if the government plan doesn't pay for it, you don't treat according to whether you are paid. You are to do what is necessary, regardless... even though the hospital will complain to you for ordering things not covered and they may even try to recoup portions of the fees out of money they are supposed to pay you. Patients are under the impression that if their govt. plan doesn't pay for something, you shouldn't have done it because it must be unnecessary and you are trying to rip them off.
Enough of that..... I could go on and on, bottom line is oBumma care will ruin healthcare in the US. Smart people will simply do something else for a living and only those who cannot get in to desired programs will go into medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, etc. Already the oBumma crowd is working on licensing procedures for someone straight out of high school to go to a 12 or 18 month vocational program to learn to do many things that currently only a doctor is allowed to do. In the future you may have a teenager with a 12 month vocational certificate treating you and/or performing minor surgical procedures.... for real, this is true.... I have seen outlines of course criteria and content. The scary thing is they must first diagnose the problem in order to know what to do, secondly if there are any extenuating circumstances or complications it will turn into an even more complex procedure in which they will not be trained for.... one that you can't put on hold while you find someone to help you with it.
Yes, oBumma care is a very bad idea. Please excuse the rambling on and on, the grammar and spelling mistakes, etc. I am extremely sleepy and my mind is not functioning very well.
