dingbat jumps in front of train to get phone almost died

What she didn't figure out: the train will pass over the phone.

I say this because it is highly unlikely that it would land perfectly on top of the tracks.

Wait for the train to pass. The phone will be unscratched. Then call over an official so that **they** can get the stinking phone for her.

Instead she decided to endanger two other lives.

Why couldn't the guy wait for the train to pass completely before he got out from under it? And if he was really suicidal, why didn't he put his head on the track and leave it there?
