This Quranimal doesn't even realize it but he just implicitly admitted that he is guilty of the charges against him. Even his lawyer begged him not to say anything about which laws he does or doesn't recognize.
Suppose he was innocent.... what kind of person, even if muslim, would waste his time trying to make a point about which law is divine and which is man made rather than just contest the charges, ask to see the evidence and then protest his innocence?
What he is saying....very subtly, is that the accusations against him are indeed accurate but that his actions are permissible according to the law that he feels is valid (sharia). If the accusations were false, then it wouldn't matter which law he sees as legitimate but rather what would matter would be his innocence and that the charges are false.
