Zahal has a core of 35,000 professional career officers and sergeants. The remaining 170,000 on active duty, and 500,000 reserves being conscripts.
Even more than defending the State, in Israeli Leftist social engineers minds' Zahal used to serve the even more important function of being a "melting pot" where all 18 year old "
Dudus" were
thoroughly "Israelified", for better or worse.
Feiglin claims that dragging tens of thousand of unwilling Frumaks in to Zahal is
totally unworkable, and he suggests an all-volunteer paid professional army like in most of the world.
From a practical and a Kahanist view, would a professional volunteer army be cheaper and better?
