A Palestinian youth who attempted to stab IDF soldiers on patrol in Gush Etzion on Thursday died of his wounds, sustained in the attack.

 


Palestinians sources said that the youth, 21-year-old Jihad Sha'ar, was mentally ill. Witnesses said that Sha'ar was far away from the soldiers and did not pose a threat to them. They said however that it was possible that Sha'ar was wielding a knife.

 

The army said that at 10:30 am a Palestinian man began advancing towards a group of soldiers on patrol near Tekoa. The man drew a knife and attempted to stab a soldier but another nearby soldier prevented the attack and hit the youth with his baton.

 

Sha'ar was critically wounded from the blow to his head and despite attempts by IDF medics to resuscitate him, died shortly afterwards.

 

An initial IDF probe into the incident determined that the second soldier initially intended to shoot the attacker, but concerned that he might accidentally hit the first soldier he decided to strike the attacker with a baton.

 

The young man's body was transferred to the Red Crescent organization.

The army said that it had not received any information regarding the man's mental condition and that as far as the IDF was concerned he was an armed threat who tried to assault soldiers.

A Palestinian was killed Thursday after he tried to stab a soldier near the Tekoa checkpoint, east of Bethlehem.

The soldier fired in the air after he was pushed to the ground by the Palestinian and then another soldier beat the assailant, reportedly with a stick.

The soldier who was attacked claimed that the Palestinian also tried to steal his rifle.

There were no casualties among the IDF soldiers.

The IDF attempted to treat the attacker at the scene and then transferred him to a Red Crescent crew at Eshkolit checkpoint. Despite attempts to resuscitate the man, identified by Palestinians as 21-year-old Jihad Sha'ar, he died of his wounds.

The IDF said that the soldier beat the Palestinian as opposed to firing at his lower body - as troops are instructed to do in such an incident - because he was scared of accidentally shooting his fellow soldier who was lying on the ground.

The army added that while the actions of the soldier were considered to be self-defense it was investigating the incident, specifically how many times the Palestinian was struck and whether the soldier used excessive force.

In a separate incident Thursday, Palestinians claimed IDF troops entered the Dehaniyeh refugee camp near Hebron, shot a Palestinian and took him away. The army denied involvement, saying the man was already injured when he approached a military checkpoint and was evacuated to an Israeli hospital.

That soldier was a hero who possibly saved his partner's life.  Is the army really more concerned about an arab retard than saving the lives of its soldiers?  Any inquiry demoralizes the troops and also does a bit to prevent soldiers from acting quickly in life/death situations like this in the future because they're afraid of facing repercussions for protecting themselves.  All these inquiries and investigations make the brave soldiers hesitant to protect themselves at the "cost" of arab muzzie lives.  We need to stop this foolishness and this soldier needs to be commended and honored rather than treated like a criminal.
