This honestly doesn't surprise me, chicago and the metropolitan area in a whole is a violent place. People that deny it don't want the tourism affected, or don't want the image of their city to be ruined, generally if you go to the business district or the loop, north shore drive or the yuppie areas, of course you'll see the safe parts of Chicago, but Chicago is much much bigger than that, stray anywhere near engle wood, Austin, Hyde park, parts of Pilsen, And you happen to be the wrong skin color or wear colors of a opposing gang, then you are risking your life.
The suburbs have also become very bad as well, many of them have become flooded with illegal aliens who literally are taking over entire neighborhoods and you have to know Spanish to order a burger at a McDonald's or a sub from subway.
Chicago sadly is turning into a larger version of Detroit thanks to the crazy government there and the corruption.
