Brooklyn, NY - A 23-year-old man was arrested Friday on hate-crime charges after he threw a Quran in a toilet at Pace University on two separate occasions.

Stanislav Shmulevich of Brooklyn, was arrested on charges of criminal mischief and aggravated harassment, both hate crimes. It's unclear if he was a student at the school.
Police say the Islamic book was found in a toilet at Pace's lower Manhattan campus by a teacher. A student found another book in a toilet.

The incidents came amid a spate of vandalism at Pace University, someone scrawled racial slurs on a student's car at the Westchester County campus and on a bathroom wall at the campus in lower Manhattan. Police didn't link Shmulevich to those crimes.
Treatment of the Quran is a sensitive issue for Muslims, who view the book as a sacred object and mistreating it as an offense against God.

This should be challenged in the Supreme Court. If the koran was his property, it's his business what he does with it.

If flag burning is protected under the 1st ammendment, why isn't koran flushing?

The ACLU fights to get these kinds of laws passed, silly.

And I know of no case of people getting prosecuted for burning Israeli flags or breaking menorahs, which happens every single day in America.

The ACLU championed the cause of flag burners. I'd love to hear them explain their double standard if they have indeed sought to criminalise koran flushing.

The koran is just a book, it may be important to some people, but it boils down to being just a book...it is not illegal to destroy a book if it is your property. If he damaged the toilets or plumbing in any way then I guess he could be charged with that, in any case if he did throw a koran in the toilet its the TOILET that got desecreated not the book

There was a case in I think it was Nashville where a koran was left on a mosque doorstep with bacon between each page, they tried to get it investigated as a hate crime but failed, evidently its not against the law to put bacon in a book...the most they could get was perhaps littering.

My personal preference is to wipe with the koran after a big feed at the all you can eat BBQ joint and the subsequent massive Al Bundy crap on the ferguson toilet.

My friend MuckDeFuslims is concerned about anal fissures resulting from the nazi-koran coming into contact with one's hiney. I hereby demand a 4-ply extra soft koran be produced immediately.

I still say that we have a Quran defacing contest here on JTF, where we would insult the Quran in the most extreme ways and post all of the videos on YouTube for the world to see. Imagine how THAT would increase our popularity!

I use pages of the koran (uran) to clean my cat's kitty litter. It is the only good that this piece of filth is capable of doing. I urge all of you to purchase a copy of the uran and clean up your doggies's poop with it and leave in the public gargbage pail where all can see. Do you remember the episode on Sienfeld when the puerto rican flag diaper was burned. The outcry that came from the left was overwhelming. It is only legal for people to burn the US flag and only the US flag. What this student did was not so terrible. He should not have stuffed up the toilet just incase some human, not a muslim, needed to use it. He could have blown his nose in one of its pages, wiped up his table droppings or just left pages in the garbage where it belonged. The US, Israel and any western countries, should be cleansed of muzzies, they have no reason for being here, It is bad enough that we must suffer with brown and black bipeds, but the sand bipeds are by far the most dangerous and should be dealt with harshly and immediately.
