Another insight into why the Para Adumah is a Cow is because it is a rectification for the sin of the Golden Calf...

http://torah.org/learning/ravfrand/5766/kisisa.html

Quote
The mistake of Klal Yisrael was that they ruled in this matter on their own without consulting the proper authorities. Such a revolutionary step as replacing Moshe Rabbeinu with a Golden Calf should under no circumstances be contemplated without first asking a "shaylah" [Rabbinic query] and without being prepared to abide by an authoritative "teshuva" [response] to such a "shaylah".

They felt that there was no need to ask a serious "shaylah". "It makes sense to us," they argued. It is true that the Golden Calf involved the Aveyra of idolatry, but it also involved another very fundamental flaw. A person must have the awareness that there are certain things he cannot do on his own. There are things about which he must ask a "shaylah" and many times there are situations where he must nullify his own opinion and understanding in the face of another person's superior opinion.

Now it makes eminent sense why the Parah Adumah should atone for the Aveyra of the Golden Calf. The Chet HaEgel was an instance where the people did not ask and were not willing to nullify their own opinion. Rather, they went off on their own, using their own power of reasoning. This is what the Tzedukim were always doing. "I can read the Torah. I can figure out what it says to do in the Torah. I do not need any Rabbi to explain to me what I am supposed to do." This is exactly the Aveyra of those who built the Golden Calf.

We now understand what our Sages mean when they say let the Cow come and clean up the mess the Calf made. Let history not repeat itself. Let the Parah Adumah, which not only represents nullifying one's understanding to that of the Almighty, but also represents nullifying one's understanding to that of the Rabbis, come as the antidote for the spiritually self-reliant attitude that led to the creation of the Golden Calf.
You shall make yourself the Festival of Sukkoth for seven days, when you gather in [the produce] from your threshing floor and your vat.And you shall rejoice in your Festival-you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your maidservant, and the Levite, and the stranger, and the orphan, and the widow, who are within your cities
Duet 16:13-14

Chaim,  thanks for another great program and specifically for the information about RZA.  I received a donation letter from them recently.  I knew nothing about that organization.   Hence,  the question on ' Ask JTF' .    I'm going to throw the donation letter in the garbage as a result of the information you provided and from what I came across today about them not willing to accept Rabbi Kahane's membership request in 1976.

Kahane Denounces the Rza for Barring Him from Membership

November 2, 1976

NEW YORK (Nov. 1)

Rabbi Meir Kahane, founder of the Jewish Defense League, today denounced the Religious Zionists of America for refusing to accept his membership in the organization. He said he would seek a Din Torah ruling and if the RZA refused to accept a favorable judgement he would go to court. Rabbi Louis Bernstein, president of the RZA, refused to comment today on Kahane’s charge.

Kahane, who last month joined the National Religious Party in Israel, which is linked to the RZA, said that the “establishment leaders have fraudulently told the Jewish people that they oppose me because of violence.” He charged that now that he is willing to work through the “establishment,” the RZA leadership has barred him because they “are afraid of my intention of speaking the truth about the tragic drop in membership, funds, activities and above all–idealism and the RZA destiny.”

The JDL leader has scheduled a meeting on Nov. 7 at the Diplomat Hotel in Manhattan to explain to RZA members his reasons for wanting to join the organization.

JERUSALEM (JTA)–Arnon Gafni, former Finance Ministry director general, was sworn in Sunday as Governor of the Bank of Israel.

"Israel's leaders seem to be more afraid of Obama than they are of G-d. Now we're getting to the real root of the problem. Secular politics won't save Israel. Denying the divine nature of the Jewish State has brought Israel neither stability nor peace. When that changes Israel will finally be blessed with both in abundance"-----------NormanF   ( Posted on Israel Matzav's Blog )
