Many Asian countries have horrible records of both human rights abuses and animal welfare abuses. Apparently in both Korean countries dogs are tortured before they're killed for food to make the meat taste better. I saw a video a few years ago of cats intended for food in China packed so tightly into a wire cage they couldn't move at all, crying for help and thrown off the top of of a truck (this would obviously cause some broken bones when the cage hit the ground), and then the man reaches down for another cage in the video. All of this should be stopped, obviously, but as long as these countries have no respect for human rights or dignity, we can hardly expect them to respect animal welfare.
