Security Protocol Review for second days Yunyif
Dear Young Israel Community,
In follow up to a recent phone conference led by representatives of Jewish Federations of North America, the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations, Secure Community Network (SCN), the FBI, DHS and materials provided by law enforcement, we share with you the following security reminders:
Community Preparedness:
· Have an emergency operations plan
· Use common sence. Dont let anyone you dont know into the building
· The Run/Hide/Fight model of active shooter response
· Monitoring illegally parked cars, suspicious packages, and the overall facility
o Train people to properly monitor your facility
· The “See something, say something” campaign to encourage reporting of suspicious activity
· Secure trash containers so bombs can’t be hidden in them
Don't walk home alone late at night. Always walk with a buddy.
Take note of individuals that:
* Demonstrate an unusual interest in or unusual questions about security procedures, or engaging in overtly suspicious actions to provoke and observe responses by security or law enforcement officers;
* Demonstrate an unusual interest in entry points, peak days and hours of operation, security personnel, surveillance assets (including cameras), and access controls such as alarms, barriers, doors, gates, or locks;
* Demonstrate an unusual interest in security reaction drills or procedures; multiple false alarms or fictitious emergency calls to same locations or similar venues;
* Loiter, park, or stand in the same area over multiple days with no reasonable explanation;
* Avoid surveillance cameras;
* Wear garments not appropriate for the weather or season without a reasonable explanation.
The following protective measures have been effective in assisting safety, security, and counterterrorism efforts:
* Increase visibility of security personnel in areas adjacent to and in front of security checkpoints to deter unwanted activity;
* Raise awareness among shul members
* Establish liaison and regular communications with local, state, and federal law enforcement, emergency responders, and public health organizations to enhance information exchange or clarify emergency responses;
* Raise community awareness of potential threats and vulnerabilities; and
* Encourage employees, congregents, and visitors to report anything that appears to be odd or suspicious.
