hm.. I like the russians.. and i know they like us. but i cant figure out my self, if they help us out in kosovo out of their brotherly love or something else..but i think that they do it out of the brotherly love. i know they help us. they helped us in kosovo, not as much as i hoped. but it boosted they serb moral VERY much. and for me, that is good enough.. i have 3 of my uncles who has bin in kosovo. they all live today, thank G-d for that.
Serbian Cetnik (šumadinac):
The reason Russia didnt help us during the bombing campaign was because
1.the russian president was Boris Yeltsin
2.the serbian president was Slobodan Milosevic
why they are helping us now is because
1.the russian president is Vladimir Putin
2. he wants to have a good ally in the balkans especially serbia since belgrade is a huge link between europe and middle east.
if you want to travel to the middle east you'd have to go through serbia.
3. He is helping Vojislav Seselj because like Putin he is a nationalist.

Actually, you are wrong.
Russia is supporting Serbia on the Kosovo issue because it allows Russia to position itself in opposition to the US and the EU. Russia wants to reassert itself as a hegemon, and you do not do that by agreeing with everyone.
More importantly, Russia itself is composed of many ethnic groups, of which a large number has dreams (delusions) of independence. An independent Kosovo would motivate these independence movements and create a very big problem for Russia.

hp, I think you are right!
It's more than just friendly relations it's political... The Russian have their own Muslim problems in Chechnya, that would send them a messsage as well.
