yes..that's what I think also.  Many temples try to imitate places of worship similar to Christians.
If someone says something bad about you, say something nice about them. That way, both of you would be lying.

I notice that in many orthodox shuls the rabbi is also the chazan.

In most Orthodox shuls at least Ashkenazic ones the congregants take turns.

Saves shekels.
This is true.
Whereas in Reform & Conservative shuls the cantor is the most important person & the rabbi is totally useless in an Orthodox shul the rabbi is  important & a cantor is a luxury.

The 'Shliach Tzibbur' will sing the appropriate portions of the prayers in the Orthodox synagogues I have been to.

But that’s not the way it is supposed to be. The cantor is referred to in Hebrew as the Shaliach Tzibbur, the “Representative of the Community”. Rosh Hashanah is the Day of Judgment – a day when each and every one of us stands in front of G-d in judgment, pleading for our very lives. The cantor is no more than a “lawyer” of sorts, representing us in the Great Court – but surely, when our future is hanging in the balance, we are not going to rely on the lawyer to win our case. We need to do most of the work ourselves, to ensure that the Judge sees us in a favorable light.
You shall make yourself the Festival of Sukkoth for seven days, when you gather in [the produce] from your threshing floor and your vat.And you shall rejoice in your Festival-you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your maidservant, and the Levite, and the stranger, and the orphan, and the widow, who are within your cities
Duet 16:13-14

I'll take Perry Como before I endure that botox-overdosed fat schwartze-goy  tuchis kisser Leon Charney.
