TVD 2X08 Elijah meets Elena for the first time

I miss the Vampire Diaries. I loved the characters, the writing and the music.
Gentiles are obligated to fulfill the Seven Noahide Commandments because they are the eternal command of God, transmitted through Moses our teacher in the Torah. The main and best book on details of Noahide observance is "The Divine Code" by Rabbi Moshe Weiner.

I didn't watch Twilight, but I remember it was extremely popular.

It seems that Milovan Glišić wrote a vampire tale called After Ninety Years (После деведесет година). I have a Serbian-Croatian dictionary written for Croatian readers of Serbian literature, so I might read the tale.

Um I don’t know what u guys are on, but twilight was a total chick flick garbage thing. I love vampire shows and movies. There is a horde of soulless undead, and the hero comes, shoots a few to bits, fries a few, and then toasts the rest in the sun. Then he says a cool line like “smells like toast” after a hundred cool lines in the movie, and then he leaves with the girl, end movie. I started watching one episode, the vampires were playing baseball and discussing their emotions. I do not appreciate the trend in all Hollywood to humanize evil and trivialize good, it’s part of their social engineering, but I can tolerate it as long as many things explode and die in the movie. That was the biggest letdown ever.

Fictional vampires are not just frightening soulless monsters. They are tragic, sorrowful and lonely. They have the power to do evil and the power to control their evil inclinations. I find that the Vampire Diaries showed their complex nature exceptionally well.

I never heard about that tale. I only heard about most famous Serbian vampire Sava Savanović. Do vampires exist in Croatian folklore?

Yes. The most famous one is Jure Grando: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jure_Grando

I heard that horror is a key element of Croatian oral folk tales. On the other hand, romantic nationalism dominates the literature. Because I like horror, there are few Croatian writers I enjoy reading.

Who are the horror writers in Croatia? I can barely name few novelists internationally. I don't know any Serbian writers.

A classic Croatian horror writer is Antun Gustav Matoš. See, for example, the following tale: https://hr.wikisource.org/wiki/Samotna_no%C4%87

I remember that you mentioned Antun Gustav Matoš once. How about contemporary Croatian writers?

I don't read contemporary writers and this is not an endorsement, but I found a writer called Jelena Hrvoj: https://youtu.be/ctiBZQGVv2I

It seems that horror fiction is on the margin today in this part of Europe.

It seems that horror fiction is on the margin today in this part of Europe.

Lovecraft wrote that horror literature has always been marginal:

"The appeal of the spectrally macabre is generally narrow because it demands from the reader a certain degree of imagination and a capacity for detachment from every-day life. Relatively few are free enough from the spell of the daily routine to respond to rappings from outside, and tales of ordinary feelings and events, or of common sentimental distortions of such feelings and events, will always take first place in the taste of the majority; rightly, perhaps, since of course these ordinary matters make up the greater part of human experience. But the sensitive are always with us, and sometimes a curious streak of fancy invades an obscure corner of the very hardest head; so that no amount of rationalisation, reform, or Freudian analysis can quite annul the thrill of the chimney-corner whisper or the lonely wood. There is here involved a psychological pattern or tradition as real and as deeply grounded in mental experience as any other pattern or tradition of mankind; coeval with the religious feeling and closely related to many aspects of it, and too much a part of our inmost biological heritage to lose keen potency over a very important, though not numerically great, minority of our species."
