In case some moron accuses me of hating old people again, my mother is over 70 and this panic is causing her more stress than the actual virus.

If the virus is so contagious, it is impossible to contain it. We have two options: a) people are infected and some are dying with a more or less stable economy and b) people are infected and some are dying with an economic depression. For some reason you seem to prefer the latter.

The economic output of the otherwise dead is worth a few weeks of quarantine. Beyond that I oppose it. These temporary measures drastically reduce infection.

I don't believe that. I don't believe that causing a certain catastrophe is preferable to avoiding a potential one.

That ignores all the evidence that we can contain it.  Singapore, South Korea have contained it.  China eventually contained it.

Social distancing is a proven technique. 

The economy was NOT stable before the govt shutting down gatherings and businesses, it was already entering a recession because of the effects of this virus.  The entire China supply chain came offline during their outbreak.   They are just now several months later getting activity going again.

The healthcare system would be overwhelmed and unable to handle the capacity if we just let this run its course and let all these people die (and all these 30 and 40 year olds be put on oxygen supplies and respirators too).   
How do you think society functions when so many workers and consumers are falling ill?  That is part of the problem besides the supply chain.  The economy could not be saved.

In fact, the South Koreans by taking such a strong attack on the virus have protected their economy best.  By us doing a lockdown in the US, this is going to help the economy recover SOONER than it otherwise would have.

You don't seem to comprehend that this virus causes a catastrophe if left unabated.   Singapore and South Korea, who were most aggressive against it, are having the least catastrophe of anyone. 
Italy which restricted nothing, found itself with a disaster on its hands, and locked down in desperation.

The lockdown is crashing the economy. Not the virus. Israel Chai said he is willing to tolerate a lockdown of a few weeks. How long do you think the lockdown should last? Please avoid abstractions and give a specific length.
